Glare and Light-Sensitivity

August 22, 2016

Symptoms of glare from bright lights and sensitivity to light are very common and are usually not a medical concern. However, they can be telling symptoms of developing ocular conditions. For example, seeing “halos” or “star-bursts” around headlights or street lights is often one of the first symptoms noticed in individuals that are developing cataracts. Light-sensitivity is a common complaint of a type of inflammation of the colored part of the eye, called “iritis”. Any new symptoms or worsening long-term symptoms of excessive glare or light-sensitivity warrant a visit to the eye doctor.
